Back when I started the blog, I subscribed to The Daily Post. Every day (duh), the one-word prompt would show up in my inbox. And every day, I ignored it.
Because today’s one-word prompt is Suitcase. And that got me thinking about how much I love packing. It’s one of my favourite things about travel, not including the actual travelling.
For me, the joy of packing lies in the obsessive list-making, the placement planning aka what goes where, the compartmentalizing, the meticulous folding and arranging… oh, just the thought of it gives me the warm fuzzies.
I’m never completely happy with how a suitcase is packed. It could always be better I believe. So every packing opportunity I get, I try something new. Maybe I’ll have experiment with a different toiletries pouch, maybe I’ll find a different storage spot for my perfume or maybe, I’ll just try out a different suitcase. I tell you, packing is an underrated travel-related activity.
And don’t get me started on a badly packed suitcase. The sight of one makes me cringe. My mother, is a terrible packer. Trust me, she agrees. So we have a bit of Freaky Friday situation in my house – Regardless of whether I’m travelling with her or not, I always pack my mom’s suitcase.
There have been instances when I’ve pulled out everything from her already packed suitcase because it looked like a [insert retail brand of choice] sale pile, and then repacked it to my standards. That’s right, I have packing standards.
Fortunately, my love for packing is not confined to the four walls of my house. I’ve also gone on to extend my packing services to my friends, some of whom have gladly taken me up. If I can’t do the actual packing, I am ever ready to make them a packing list. Their lack of interest is only my gain.
Now I could go on, but it’s 11:59 and I feel like I should hit the ‘Publish’ button before the clock strikes midnight (or I’ll turn into a pumpkin?).
If you have a packing problem, write to me – I would be so happy to help!
