Last year, I had a chance to visit Jammu over a weekend to attend one of my best friends’ engagement. I didn’t get to explore the city but I did get to visit what was in my experience, the smallest airport.
The Jammu airport ends as soon as it begins. It has all of two gates, one beside the other, and here’s what I found most amusing – passengers were required to verify their checked-in luggage before it was loaded onto the plane.
There I was, waiting for the boarding announcement, when an airport attendant began calling everyone to step outside and claim their luggage, or it wouldn’t make it to the plane!
Understandably this was for security purposes but I still thought it was quite hilarious.
Then there was the fact that we walked up to the airport after disembarking the plane. No airbus, no aerobridge. We just got off the plane and walked to the airport, like it was a bus stop.
What’s the smallest airport you’ve ever been to? Tell me all about it 🙂
The smallest airport I’ve visited is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, called the Ironwood Gogebic County airport and it’s only intended for private jets. The US government runs a shuttle service there that’s quite affordable because it’s such a remote area but there are about 5 employees in the whole place and it’s as big as a small house.

If i got my facts right, the smallest airport would be Salalah, before its expansion! Even Qish used to be rather small.

Thanks for sharing Sudeep 🙂 Going to look it up. Have you been to both airports?

Oh wow, thanks for sharing. So does that also mean you’ve been on a private jet? 😀
